Description:
Untitled document

A defective seam is shown by the flattening seen in the accompanying illustration (fig.1). The lack of an indented code indicates that this is the manufacture’s seam where defective seaming is rare. Such flattening is indicative of faulty adjustment of the roller used to finish the seam-making procedure. Severe and widespread corrosion on the lid are seen on fig.2. Compression damage occurs when a force is applied down-ward onto a can (fig.3). Individual cans may be damaged in this way if dropped on end but where a large number are found it is frequently due to the collapse of stacked pallets due to overloading or overstocking. This is a typical example. Severe seam damage occurs and such cans are not suitable for sale. Superficially damage may appear to be similar to that to severe panel damage but close examination shows the two to be readily distinguishable.
