Description:
Untitled document

A boiled egg containing an embryonic chick (fig.1). In this example the embryo was at a very early stage of development and positive identification was possible only by histological examination for evidence of cellular differentiations. There is normally no opportunity under commercial egg production conditions for fertilization to occur. However, all eggs should be examined by ´candling´. In this process the egg is held against a light source – originally a candle. A fertilized egg is partially opaque and may thus be distinguished from the translucent non-fertilized. Fertilized egg should be discarded.
